It failed!
I am sure you all do not care, but I failed to install Mac OS X in both places. Though my laptop got close to running it the video never worked. Even after endless hours of toiling over it.. So I installed Kubuntu instead, that at least I know works.
Once the official windows 7 comes out I will probably be switching my main system over to it, and maybe my new laptop as well. However it all depends on what my new laptop is. As much as I no longer want to mess with macs I am still considering getting one.
Hopefully if Psystar’s battle with apple works out we all will be able to enjoy Mac OS X on our PC soon (but knowing apple, probably not).
Hackintosh
Well putting the language learning aside for now. I decided to try my hand to at making a Hackintosh. Rather a Mac on non Apple Hardware. I personally dislike apples restrictions on their hardware and software. I have an iPod Touch, and its an awesome device… but it only really got useful after I jailbroke it. Not to say a non-jailbroken version is useless, its just less useful. I mean how else am I suppose to bluetooth transfer files to and from my PC, or download and save files or have my custom theme + 5 icon dock + plus on the fly brightness changing, fast note taking, process killing drop-down menu (etc). Plus what about my countless emulators and other odds and end stuff?
Anyway back to hackintoshing. Apple has a great idea but they really need to cut back on their Paranoia! I mean really, they should just open up their systems/software and they would have tons more customers. Like me for instance, who would have bought Mac OS X for my PC when Vista came out, instead I ended up switching to the blasted thing. I haven’t stopped regretting that once since.
Now I have used Mac OS X before it the experience was something else. I went in a computer expert and came out a guy who kinda knew some things about computers. A big step down and a nice lesson in humility for me, I have been craving more ever since, but I am not about to shell out the few thousand I need to get a piece of equipment which I do not currently need and cannot play half my games.
Thats where this comes in, I already own a Laptop, and I have plans to get a new one, since my current is showing exactly why you do not buy a $500 laptop and then abuse it almost constantly. Its screen has hardware artifacts (which appear even in bios, etc) and it tends to completely lock up or just go to a black screen sometimes and the only option is to hard reboot it. Since I got windows 7 on it, I haven’t gotten a black screen instead it just locks up, a small step forward, since sometimes it unfreezes after a second. Anyway I am getting a disk image now, and if it works well on VMWare I will attempt to install it on my current laptop, and then the new one if that works out. I will of course pay my homage to the Giant Blue Apple and buy a key if I can get it to work (that way I can get updates
.
Basic Mobile Support
I have added some basic support for mobile browsers, more specifically Mobile Safari, the mobile browser used by iPhone and iPod Touch. The reasoning behind this is, I have an iPod Touch to test it on, therefore I can test the page layout in it. There are still a few ‘loose’ ends but the pages looks OKAY I think.
